Bristol Ladies came from behind at half time to secure a vital away victory at Lichfield Ladies yesterday afternoon. 5 different players scored 5 tried for Bristol, securing a bonus point with a 15 – 29 final score.
Sydney Gregson put Bristol in front with a try on 13 minutes after some great phases of play from the forwards. The ball was played out wide for Gregson to pick up, and using her strength to hand off the final Lichfield defender, she flew over in the corner.
Lichfield then scored a penalty and a try through Natasha Hunt, with Cerys Williams adding another try just before half time, taking the score at the break to 15 – 5.
After the break Bristol came back onto the pitch with aggression and after 20 minutes of the second half were level with Lichfield. Katie Mason scored the first with a fantastic side step to beat the Lichfield defense, and Becky Hughes turned on the gas to speed down the pitch for Bristol’s third try of the game.
The last 20 minutes saw the team step up once again, with Amber Reed breaking through the defensive line and putting Harriet Millar-Mills over the try line, and Nolli Waterman showing her class for the final try of the afternoon. Reed successfully converted both to get the final score of 15 – 29.
Captain Amber Reed spoke after the game: ‘It was our second half performance that won us the game today. We came up with some focus points at half time and the whole squad put in a phenomenal performance to put things right and turn the score around. I’m very proud of our whole squad performance and things definitely clicked into place. We will take this performance into another big clash next week at home against Worcester’.
