Wasps Ladies v Richmond Women

Review

Wasps hosted local rivals Richmond today in the final Premiership game of 2014. After a fierce battle in the first half, Richmond got the edge and took home a 13-34 win.

Scoring opened 25 minutes in, with Jo Watmore putting Richmond up by 5 points.

Just minutes later, Wasps responded with a try from Bea Dawson, who broke Richmond’s defence to put the girls in black and gold back on a level peg, 5 – 5.

Richmond maintained possession, however, a turnover led to Becca Rowe sprinting up the wing and putting Wasps back into the Richmond 22. Wasps were awarded a penalty, which Hannah Edwards slotted over the posts, taking the score to 8-5.

Moments after Wasps took the lead, Richmond responded with a try from Laura Kapo, which again was left unconverted by Chamberlain.

Richmond started the second half strong with a driving maul and from which Becky Essex scored. With the try right under the posts, Chamberlain found her form and converted. 8 – 17 to the visitors.

Tries from Kapo and Alex Matthews followed in the next 15 minutes, whilst Wasps struggled to find their feet in the second half. Richmond up 8-29.

Wasps finally pulled it together with 10 minutes to go, with some strong attacking phases.  This was capitalised on by Marlie Packer, who scored to take the home side into double figures on the score board. Wasps 13 – Richmond 29.

In the last plays of the game, a final Richmond try was scored, and the visitors go into 2015 with a 13 – 34 win under their belts.
