Richmond Women continued their bright start to the season, making it two wins from two in their first home league game of the season.

Richmond started the game slowly, with strong scrums but several handling errors, which saw them struggling to defend their own try line. DMP took advantage and scored ten minutes in, from a line-break on Richmond’s twenty-two, which was successfully converted, bringing the score to 0-7.

Richmond responded by kicking their game up a gear, and five minutes later Vik Cornborough stormed through several defenders, before offloading to Alicia McComish, who scored Richmond’s first try. Abi Chamberlain converted bringing the score to 7-7.

A great series of runs and offloads, including fancy footwork from Emma Croker, put Richmond in a strong position to score again. This time Holly Myers took the plaudits after a fast sprint down the wing. 12-7.

By this time Richmond’s handling had massively improved, allowing individuals to make an impact, such as Laura Kapo, who made several of her trade-marked runs through the defence, and Jackie Shiels, who danced past numerous defenders. Alicia McComish grabbed her 2nd try after sustained pressure from Richmond to give them a 17-7 lead at half time.

The second half began as the first ended with Richmond pressing DMP. Chloe Edwards and Anna Caplice cut several impressive lines, positioning their team in the opposition’s twenty-two. Sam McCarthy had an easy score from the back of a dominant Richmond scrum. Jackie Shiels converts. 24-7.

Three more tries follow in quick succession, the second of which is impressively converted by Jackie Shiels from the edge of the pitch. 41-7.

Anna Caplice caught the ball from the subsequent kick off, before running twenty metres and attempting an audacious chip-and-chase taking Richmond five metres away from the opposition try line. Richmond turned over the DMP scrum and shipped the ball from one side of the pitch to the other to give Holly Myers an easy run in from the wing. 46-7.

DMP kick off again with Richmond’s Oli Davies catching the ball and running back down the field. After some fantastic link play Richmond scored again. 51-7.

Richmond then had a second try held up after Anna Caplice broke through DMP and offloaded to Holly Myers, who reaches the try line. From the scrum the ball was shipped to the opposite corner, and this time found ground, bringing the score to 56-7.

One last try brought the final score to an impressive 61-7, and left Richmond victorious. The bonus point win puts them top of the Premiership table.
