Cheltenham Ladies remain unbeaten after win in local derby

Cheltenham ladies continued their impressive unbeaten run and went 7 points clear at the top of Championship South after a hard fought win away against a strong Bath side.

The Tigers soaked up a lot of pressure in the first 15 minutes, with Bath having large spells of possession and territory, but the defence held strong and eventually they were rewarded with a number of penalties in quick succession. From an outstanding maul, Fran Strong, who carried well all day, broke and came up just short of the line. Cheltenham were able to recycle the ball and full back Emma Mundy cut back and her silky feet beat the last few defenders to see her dive over. She converted her own try to make it 7-0.

Bath continued to have the lion share of possession and territory but when Cheltenham had the ball they made good use of it. Just before half time, in only their second visit to the 22, Bee Mocellin chipped over the flat defence and regathered to score a great individual try. That took the half time score to 12-0.

After soaking up the pressure in the first half, Tigers came out all firing and took control of the game from there. Strong carries from Jo Hurd and Meg Lavill gave them the go forward they needed and they found themselves over the Bath line. Although they were held up this time, the resulting scrum which was dominant all day, walked over the Bath line and replacement flanker Rebecca Trist touched down.

Another impressive attack 10 minutes later, that started in the Bath half, resulted in winger Suzie Walker going over in the corner on the 8th phase of attack. Straight from the kick off, vice-captain Bryony Narbeth gathered the ball and proceeded to run the length of the pitch, handing off several Bath players on her way to score under the posts. That secured the bonus point win for the Tiger Ladies. Final score 27-0.

They now go into a 4 week break and will return to action on the 2nd of December away at Plymouth Albion.
