PREVIEW: BRISTOL BEARS WOMEN VS DMP SHARKS

Bristol Bears Women will be looking to make it back-to-back league wins at Shaftesbury Park when DMP Sharks arrive in Bristol for Saturday’s Tyrrell’s Premier 15’s clash.

DMP will arrive at Shaftesbury Park having not picked up a win since round one, when they edged out Worcester Valkyries, 27-24 thanks to a late Kate Hobson try. They will be looking to end a run of two straight defeats, having been beaten by Gloucester-Hartpury and Saracens Women’s.

Here’s your big match preview ahead of Saturday’s clash:

LAST TIME OUT:

The two sides last met in round seventeen of the 2017/18 Tyrrell’s Premier 15s campaign and it was Bristol Bears Women who ran out, 36-19 victors at Cleve RFC.

Oliver’s side crossed the whitewash on six occasions that evening, Phoebe Murray bagged a brace with Lilly Stoeger-Goddard, Izzy Noel-Smith, Claire Molloy and Sydney Gregson all scoring to give Bristol the victory against a spirited DMP side.

HEAD-TO-HEAD:

LUCY ATTWOOD

The England U20 international has been on fire throughout the start of the season, playing in her adopted position at centre she has score twice in three games.

Attwood has been a key component in the Bristol Bears Women backline, intelligently picking off gaps in the opposition’s defensive line to gain valuable yards and front-foot ball.

GEORGINA ROBERTS

Roberts will line-up opposite Attwood in the centres and the Bears’ backline will be wary of the threats that she will pose.

She is strong in the tackle area and will look to shut down the space for the Bears’ backs to operate in as well as being powerful with the ball in hand.

POPPY LEITCH

Leitch has been in impressive form throughout the first three rounds of the Tyrrell’s Premier 15s, most notably in her player of the match display in the double header at Ashton Gate last weekend.

The open-side is dominant in the contact area and leads by example with her tireless work rate, she has also scored two tries in the Bears’ opening three games.

KATE HOBSON

Hobson will look to go toe-to-toe with Leitch at Shaftesbury Park and attempt to outwork her opposite number as DMP go in search of their second win of the season.

The flanker has also crossed the whitewash this season, scoring a late try in round one to secure victory for her side over the Worcester Valkyries.

FORM:

Bristol Bears Women come into this round four clash with confidence having comprehensively beaten Gloucester-Hartpury, 43-5 at Ashton Gate last weekend.

DMP Sharks will be looking to get back to winning ways after back-to-back losses at the hands of Saracens and Gloucester-Hartpury. The Sharks got off the mark this season back in round one when they defeated Worcester Valkyries at home.
