DMP Sharks Report

DMP Sharks welcomed league leaders Bristol to the north East as they were hosted by Newcastle Falcons at Kingston park today.

The early exchanges were back and forth with a penalty chance missed by DMPs flyhalf who was then carded for an offence at the breakdown as Sharks defended their line. Bristol’s openside winger scored in the corner despite aggressive Sharks last ditch defence. Nolli Waterman, Bristol fullback scored their 2^nd try, fresh back into the 15’s game following her trip to Rio. Shortly after, Bristol scored again on the opposite wing through some slick handling in the midfield. Watermans 2^ND try came from a well -executed line out set piece move releasing the evasive fullback through the middle. Bristol captain, Amber reed duly converted. 0-22 to the visitors. Following the return of Sharks 10, Mclean, to the field, DMP unleashed some decent attacking play and started asking questions of the strong Bristol defence. The scrummage was fairly inconsistent throughout the game for both sides, however Bristol took their chance efficiently 5 mins before half time, driving over for a try near the uprights. The score at half time was 0-29 to Bristol.

The second half started with Bristol on the front foot again, a line break and slick handling in the backs allowed Lottie holland to run in unchallenged out wide.

Sharks made changes in the pack and jo brown was replaced by Ashley Thurso who.
After some dogged defence by sharks on their try line, englands poppy cleall charged over the line with two defenders hanging off her. Amber reed added the extras to leave the sharks trailing 41-0 at 52 minutes.
Sharks restarted with a high kick from fly half Katy McLean, which was taken by tight head prop Sasha aitchesen who stepped and ran the length of the pitch to score a front rows dream try.
Bristol made two changes at 8 and 10, with both England players leaving the field. Sharks finally mainintained some possession and built phases deep into the Bristol 22m. After a series of penalties, and a well driven lineout,Zoe aldcroft powered over the line from the resulting breakdown.

This saw a turning point in the Sharks resolute and they came back fighting, lifted by the points on the board. Some fantastic handling from Bristol earned them another score in the corner but DMP retaliated with a great finish from winger Kat Hobson to bring the score to 10-53. Chantelle Neil scored a quick brace during the last 10 minutes, giving the winger a hattrick finish. Both tries were converted by Reed.

A tough day at the office for the Northern team who were out played in many areas of the game by an in form, South west outfit with a plethora of international talent currently. Despite the try’s scored ratio, DMP battled hard to the end but just struggled to keep possession long enough to make an impact on the scoreline.

Bristol Report

Bristol Ladies remain unbeaten in the Women’s Premiership this season, securing another win away from home at DMP Sharks this afternoon. In a game where Bristol struggled to find their rhythm, the strength and depth of the squad shone.

Fly half Meg Jones played a huge role in the first three tries, passing the ball out wide to Tilly Vaughan Fowler (sponsored by Macron) for the first.  The second came from a great kick chase and offload to Nolli Waterman, and the third off the back of a storming run, eventually passing out to Chantelle Miell.

A well-executed set piece and driving maul provided the platform for Waterman to dance over the line for her second of the afternoon, and just before half time Sarah Hunter darted over for the bonus point try. The score at half time was 0 – 29.

The second half started in the same vein with Bristol winning a penalty from the off. A forward pass from Bristol gave DMP the put in at the scrum, but Bristol come away with the ball and Lottie Holland (sponsored by Gooch and Housego) scored.

DMP enjoyed a few moments of possession, although both Amber Reed and Carys Phillips put dents into their attacks with great turn overs. The pressure continued to build and Poppy Cleall charged over the line from close range. Amber Reed (sponsored by Colston’s School) converted to take the score to 0 – 41. Moments later Sasha Acheson scored from the half way line, powering down the wing and adding her name to the score sheet.

DMP continued to work hard and were rewarded in a try, as Zoe Aldcroft put 5 on the board for the home side.  Kat Hobson got a second for the team 10 minutes later.

Cat McNaney come onto the pitch as replacement for Waterman, and 2 minutes later found herself on the end of a good spell of passing play and scored, with Reed converting. Chantelle Miell got her second after picking up a Snowsill kick, and she completed her hat trick on 78 minutes. The final scored ended 10 – 67.

Roy Davies spoke to us after the game “There were lots of positives on show today, and our set pieces was really solid and provided a great platform for us to play from. We didn’t quite manage to get to the standard of performance we would have liked and we were not as accurate at the breakdown as we could have been. Our Forward of the game is Amelia Buckland Hurry for her great work great and commitment, and exceptional control and accuracy in the set piece. Back of the game goes to Chantelle Miell for her hat trick and outstanding finishing.
