AMY DU PLESSIS was born in South Africa but has made Southland and Otago her home.

Having immigrated from the Republic when she was seven, her family settled in Invercargill.

She first made her mark in the strong Southland GHS First XV programme, where she combined with Alena Saili in the midfield to help the school win its first national Top 4 final in 2016.

Du Plessis was also making her mark in sevens, where she was a fixture in the Black Ferns Sevens Development squad through 2018-19.

By 2018 she was in Otago, debuting for the Spirit, and forming a potent midfield combination with Kilisitina Moata’ane.

In the 2020 Farah Palmer Cup, she scored two tries in her five outings for the Spirit, giving the Alhambra-Union club player nine tries in 15 FPC matches. She then impressed as a replacement for the Probables in the Black Ferns trial.

Du Plessis is one of nine new players in the Black Ferns squad.
